Susana Montero is one of the UK's leading salsa teachers and she will be visiting Belfast on Sat 2nd and Sun 3rd of April 2005 to give a range of salsa workshops covering techniques, such as Partner Work, Styling, Musical Interpretation and Body Work and also bringing you her latest moves.
Workshops will be arranged to suit different levels of experience and confidence including Beginner, Improver, Intermediate and Advanced. On the Saturday evening there will be a Salsa Disco in aid of Unicef.
Tickets to cover the 8 hours of workshops for the weekend will be £35 (£25 for students), other ticket options are listed below, the Salsa Disco will be £7. The location of the Salsa Disco will be Belfast Boat Club, Lockview Road, Stranmillis (Beside Cutters Wharf). The workshops will take place in Queen’s PEC, (Stranmillis Road, Belfast).

Susana Montero is one of the UK’s top salsa teachers and is much sought after and respected around the world. She is formally trained in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary and Afro Cuban Dance and has a vast knowledge of rhythm and dance. Her dancing skills and her excellent teaching abilities have got her a top billing at Salsa Congresses all over Continental Europe and America. All this talent is ColBlkped up in one of the most likeable personalities around.
Susana was born and raised in Madrid, Spain. She started dancing at the age of five with a self-evident passion and talent for Ballet and Flamenco. She excelled in Ballet, winning competitions and gaining fame and acclaim along the way. She also studied Contemporary and Jazz dance, along with Afro Cuban. Since moving to London ten years ago to work with some of the biggest names in Salsa such as Leon Rose and Robert Charlemagne Susana has established herself as a world-class teacher.
For the enjoyment of people attending the workshops in the Maple Room, we will need to limited numbers and preference will be given to those who book and pay early. We encourage you to make adequate provision for water during the workshops.

For the enjoyment of people attending the workshops we will be limiting numbers in sessions 1,5 and 6. So for sessions 1 and 6 preference will be given to those who book day and full weekend passes and we will issue individual tickets at a later date if we have places. For session 6 we would ask those who are beginners not to attend this workshop.

Body Isolation with Susana (Session 1) - this workshop serves primarily to ‘warm-up’ the entire body and to assist dancers gain greater control each part of their body. It is an open session and all level of dancers are welcome.
Partner Work all levels with Susana and Rahmi (Session 2a) - Content to be confirmed.
Beginners salsa, Cuban Style with Richard (Session 2b) - The Cuban Styling is a lovely form of salsa with it own feel and lead. This workshop is aimed at beginners and will teach some Cuban Style Salsa patterns. If time permits, we will have some fun by dancing them as a La Rueda circle.
Ladies styling with Susana (Session 3a) - this workshops will look at interpretive footwork and body Styling to make your dancing more interesting. It is attended for all levels of dancers.
Men styling with TBC (Session 3b) - this workshop will look at interpretive footwork to make your dancing more interesting. It is attended for all levels of dancers.
Improvers/Intermediate salsa with Susana (Session 4a) - Susana will bring some of her latest moves, configurations and shapes. This class is attended for dancers at Improvers/Intermediates level.
Rock n Roll Jive (Session 4b) - Each form of dance has it own feel and music. Rock n Roll jive is not different; it is a bouncy happy high energy dance which is dance to well know track like Jive Bunny and rocking around the clock. This Workshop will teach you the basic and introduce a few moves. It is for all levels and no experience of jive is needed.
Advanced Salsa with Susana (Session 5) - Susana will bring some for her latest moves, configurations and shapes. This class is attended for those who want to push themselves.
Interpretation of the Music with Susana (Session 6) - One of the greatest enjoyments of dance is to be able to link your moves to what the music is telling you. This workshop will look a how to do this. It is open to all levels.
Footwork all levels with Susana & Rahmi (Session 7) - This workshop will aim to improve techniques and help develop solid footworks and balance.
Beginner/Improver salsa with Susana (Session 8) - Susana will bring some for her latest moves, configurations and shapess
Please read the following definitions carefully before deciding which level is right for you.
Beginners 0-3 months,
You are not yet confident with basic steps, lead or following.
Improvers 3-9 months
You are confident with the basic steps
Intermediate 9 months to 2 years
Gentlemen: you should have a good number of patterns and be able to move easily from one pattern to a next.
Ladies: you should be able to follow complex turn patterns comfortably.
Advanced 2years+
Gentlemen: you should have the ability to remember and skilfully lead a series of complex moves with continuity and styling.
Ladies: Spins should not be problems for you. Intricate footwork is challenging, but fun for you. It will not frustrate you or give you a brain meltdown.
The Queen’s Physical Education Centre (PEC) is the location of workshop. It offers a range of leisure oppotunities for its’ students and public members, including an expanding range of dance courses such as Salsa, Hip Hop, Jive, Bellydancing and Irish Ceili Dancing. Maple Room has a sprung maple floor and is fully mirrored which is used for their dance classes. Parking for the PEC is provided on the Ormeau Embankment.

The PEC can be accessed in a number of ways:
By foot
· From the back of Queen’s University walk across Botanic Park
· From University Road through the main Botanic Park entrance
· From Stranmillis, at the bottom of Stranmillis Gardens
By car
· From the Ormeau Road, coming from Belfast, turn onto Stranmillis Embankment and the PEC main car park is on your right.
· From the Malone Road, turn into Stranmillis Road and drive along the river past the Lyric Theatre and the PEC car park is on your left.
